Mountain Air Dance Teen Mentoring Program

A great new way for teens ages 12+ to come together, learn and grow!

This program is designed to give Mountain Air Teen Aerial Students an avenue to deepen their impact in our community, to help them find a sense of purpose, become a role model for younger students and other teens, to help them gain self-confidence, optimism and resilience and to offer them mentors to help them through it all.

Mountain Air Students may participate in this program in a variety of ways that can be catered to their availability and personal goals. We strive to make this program grow with the teens and to accommodate the many challenges they may face.

Program Goals

  • build self-confidence, optimism and resilience
  • develop life skills: responsibility, time management, respect for themselves and others
  • foster a sense of purpose in the community and in life
  • provide positive adult role models outside of family and school
  • cultivate leadership and teaching skills
  • help start a resume and prepare for careers in any field

Mentors

Our Full-Time Aerial Instructors and select experts from the Gallatin Valley will serve as the mentors for this program. Mountain Air Instructors will attend all Tribe meetings offering guidance and support to the teens as professionals in their field. Mentors will take the role as active listeners helping the teens through their challenges and celebrating their successes. They will share their life experiences as well as help the teens with important life skills and offer support as they make their way to adulthood.

Ways to Join

Tribe: Join us for monthly gatherings designed to build a sense of community within our teen participants. Each gathering will include an aerial workshop created by a mentor and feature a guest speaker or activity meant to inspire, teach and promote healthy habits or skills that young adults require.

Tribe will end each meeting with time to check-in with the mentors about challenges in life and as aerialists. These meetings offer a safe space for discussion as well as a diversion from regular responsibilities. All Levels welcome! Ages 12-18yrs. Must be currently enrolled as an aerial student at Mountain Air Dance.

Tribe will meet periodically for specialized workshops with community partners. Fall 2021 Calendar coming soon!

Apprentice: Apply here to help out at our Kids’ Aerial class sessions or camps! Applicants must be at least 12 yrs old and have passed our level 2 skills test on all apparatus. Must commit to an entire session or camp.

These teens will learn to assist the younger aerial students on Aerial Hammock, Silks, Low-flying Trapeze & Lyra as well as assist with floor based exercises, warm-ups and stretching. Mountain Air Staff will guide the teens through the basics of classroom management, spotting and safety protocol while helping them build their leadership skills with the kids.

Apprentices receive a 10% discount on all A
erial classes for the session they are helping!

Please email Cathy if you are interested in more information on the next round of Apprenticeships.

Teacher Training Program: Apply here to start on the journey to becoming an Aerial Instructor! Applicants must be at least 15 yrs old and have completed at least 1 session as an Apprentice to apply.

Participants will begin taking on a more active role in teaching the Kids' classes by learning how to safely guide kids through aerial skills with the correct words, demonstrations and spotting techniques as well as by leading warm-ups, conditioning and stretching.

As participants progress and show readiness they will be invited to move up in the program from Teaching Assistant to Co-teacher and finally Lead Instructor!

Teens will receive feedback on their work and periodic performance evaluations which will lead to recommendations to move up in the program or to continue in their current role with new goals.

Assistant Teacher Training Fees:
Assistants pay $20 per training class to Mountain Air Dance for their education. Trainees receive free access to Open Gym and a 20% discount on all Aerial classes for the session they are helping!
